The National Trust organise visits to Staple Island to see the Puffins during the nesting season. Access is strictly controlled to avoid disturbance, but it is an amazing experience to see such colourful birds as fairly close range. I visited in July 2013. Trips are normally available from Seahouses, Northumbria, but the island was closed in 2024 and 2025.
