Danesbury Fernery, Welwyn, Herts

Danesbury Fernery in Welwyn, Herts, was built by the famous Pulham Company of Broxbourne in 1859, originally in the grounds of nearby Danesbury House. It consists of a cave and water feature, made of artificial stone, ‘Pulhamite’. It was built in what was originally a chalk pit, and surrounded by a fernery. After falling into disrepair, the fernery was restored by the Friends of Danesbury Fernery from 2015 onwards and is a wonderful place to visit at any time of year.
